The web client can get out of sync with the actual state of items in vCenter. Its easy to repair- if you feel that the web console doesn't reflect what you expect the state of something to be (for example, if a virtual machine does not appear to be powered on after you've told it to power on), hit the refresh button next to your login name in the top right corner.
